The Rogaine Complex in Hollywood

I don't know if you, the reader of this blog, saw Monday's 24 episode. If you didn't and are planning to see it sometime then please don't read this blog entry.

Anyway back to Monday night's episode, the viewer got to see Jack Bauer's brother Graem Bauer. Graem Bauer was the bad guy in Season 5 and he was "advicing" Season 5's US President. Here is the quick bio on the character:
  • Jack Bauer's brother
  • Bad Guy
  • Marilyn Bauer, his wife, who had a crush on Jack before she was married with Graem
  • Wears glasses
  • Has a son
  • He is bald

After watching the show, I felt for the guy. He always felt that he was inferior to his brother "Jack". Even his wife had feeling for "Jack". Jack this and Jack that. To top it all of, Graem is bald. How bad can it get? The dude looses his hair, looses his girl's heart and looses out to his "better" brother.

This made me thinking. Other than Vin Diesel (the actor who cannot act), there is no bald actor who played a "hero" character. Can you name one? Okay Patrick Stewart who plays Captain Jean Luc Picard. Anyway the point is...that Graem Bauer's baldness doesn't help his case.

Why are you picking on poor Graem Bauer's baldness.

Many, many movie stars are bald, balding or doing a so-so job of hiding the fact. Al Pacino, Ben Affleck, Matthew McConaughey, to name a few, are all struggling with this problem. Here is a list:

Because of prominent and respected stars like these, Hollywood is tackling the problem from the inside out. In fact, it hasn't been announced, but rumors exist that the said three are going to star in an upcoming blockbuster together. The working title is "Hairloss in Hollywood" A documentary detailing the stories of the very real problems male actors have to face in Hollywood.

Now, can you imagine Graem with hair? With hair and playing the same part? Hair, same part and being sinister? Nah, I didn't think so. It just doesn't work.

That said, don't feel too bad for Graem. His baldness is working for him. He's in good company -and making a lot of money because of it.
