Quality Street Chocolates

Image
My wife's good friend from Canada brought my favorite chocolates  which are only available in the United Kingdom and Canada (at least that is where I have seen it).  The chocolates are called Quality Street and frankly they are simply delicious.  The Quality Street chocolates come in a container and they are individually wrapped.  The chocolates come in twelve flavors like Coconut Eclaire, Hazelnut Caramel, Chocolate Fudge, etc., and etc.  I still remember when I first ate them. I was four years old and I got my first box when I turned four.  I single handedly finished a 2 lb box of them.  The next day I was sick and eventually had worms. Through the whole ordeal, I thought the chocolates were worth the pain.  Once I moved to India when I was five, my decadent habit was put rest since I never got a hold of them.  My taste buds would occasionally revive when my dad or some other person would send my parents a box of Quality Street chocolates.  After our honeymoon in October 2002,

If my mom were alive...

Today if my mom were alive today then she would be sixty years old. Wow! Time flies by fast. My mom Tabitha was born on December 24th, 1947 in New Delhi, India and she passed away on January 2nd, 1992 in Stillwater, Oklahoma. As I look back and I realize that I didn't spend all of my life with her since she was with my dad and brother in the Middle East while I was India. She was part of my life on a full time basis from 1986 till she died. I wish I got to know my mom more however we, as people, have to realize time flies. Before you know it, we are on our deathbed staring at our sad kids, nieces, nephews, grandkids, grand nieces and nephews. The only constant in our temporal life is Christ. His love for us is constant. His presence in my life is constant. I find comfort in that since He is the anchor of my life. I am also comforted by the fact that this is what my mother wanted of my life which is to be a living sacrifice for Christ.

Blessing from the toilet ...eh?

Image
You might wonder that it is an odd title for a blog entry however I felt it was appropriate. Let me explain. Last week, my daughter was playing with cell phone and she accidentally dropped into the toilet. The phone was pretty much fried after that. I could not use it. And so I went to see my friend Bobby Cherian, who owns a Verizon cell phone store, in Damascus, MD . After twenty minutes of looking around, I found the cell phone I liked. It is Verizon's LG enV which has a keyboard with a descent screen. I, now, use the cell phone to call my friends, use the internet to check my email on Yahoo! and Gmail, and play Madden Football 08 . Yes, Madden Football which is not bad for a cell phone. I paid a minimal amount to get the game. I am enjoying my new gadget and therefore it was blessing from the toilet. However I did have to add 2 more years to my Verizon contract. Here is a YouTube video which gives more information about the LG enV

Crossroads

Image
As I sit down to write this blog, I am at a crossroads in my life. I have been offered a high level, good paying job to work for a US government agency. The position seems to be promising and it seems to offer the intellectual flexibility and creative latitude which I seem to crave since my current job doesn't offer much of that. To build context for this blog entry, let me explain what I do for a living. I am a software developer, a code monkey, a software hacker or, in old school talk, I am a Java programmer. I truly enjoy programming since it offers me a medium where I can be problem solver and I can pull on my creative and intellectual skills. However when I am asked to build software functionality on a poorly designed software system, it is not thrilling. In fact working with poor software sucks the energy out of you because you cannot clean up the code but rather build on it. Everyone on the software development agrees that the code can be cleaned up however contractu
