What would Christ want us to do?

Couple of days ago, I voted in this year's Presidential election. I debated and prayed for a long time for who to vote. Eventually I did vote. During the election years, there is a lot of debate on the news networks, talk shows, dinner tables and while drinking coffee. Typical questions come up like: electing presidents who align with our moral and political views and therefore pick judges who are like-minded like us. will the new president raise taxes or decrease taxes will the new president support same-sex marriage and other viles things There are heated discussions and in the end the nation comes together and moves on till the next presidential election. As Christians, we tend to favor candidates who lean to the right and tend to have Christian values however we don't always get our way. Anyway the purpose of this blog is not to discuss our political inclinations but this blog should help you reflect on what Christ really wants us to do. I have been reading the book c...

It Hurts

After a lot of prodding from my wife Michelle , I ended up going to the Podiatrist to have my calluses on my left foot looked at. It's embarrassing to get your feet looked at. I am glad that I heeded to my wife's advice. Michelle is so wise! Anyway I went to Progressive Podiatrist in Urbana, MD last Thursday May 15th, 2008. She said I had calluses on top of Plantar Warts and her recommendation is that I have to have them removed. Being a typical guy, I wanted to get it over with and so I opted for the surgery. First a cold spray, followed by a needle of burning and then numbing Novocaine and finally using the scalp to slice the sole of my left foot. If you didn't know then the procedure is quite painful. I have been hobbling for a few days. The recommended procedure of soaking the foot in warm water with Epsom salts is the not most pleasant procedures. The salt simply burns in the wounds and walking on the foot doesn't help either. Anyway I was reminded ab...

A commonality

As I was listening to the Sunday School today from the book of Joshua , I was struck that everyone in the room loves Jesus Christ. In our meeting, we have toddlers like my daughter Patricia, who is almost 1 year old, to Brother Garnes who is in his mid-nineties. We have East Indians, like myself, Palestinians, Americans, like my wife Michelle, West Africans, Chinese, Caribbean folks, a Armenian and a Romanian. We are a mini United Nations (UN). Unlike the UN where nothing significant is accomplished, we as believers fellowship in Christ. We are also united in Christ. I was thinking about Br. Garnes. He has lived through World War I, II, Korean War, Vietnam War and the Gulf war. He may not understand today's generation and how they think or how they dress. He may not know what a blog is or what is so special about Facebook.com . I don't know how people thought during World War I, II and the other wars. Yes I can get a feel for it by reading history books. I might k...

A distinct memory

As I remember my childhood, I remember listening to this song when I was five years old . It was a Jim Reeves Christmas song and it used to be played on a tape player almost every morning at my grandmother's house in New Delhi, India . I searched for Jim Reeves on YouTube.com and I found one of the songs I grew up with. The song brings back memories on how I use to play on swing, go down the slide, stare at Archie comics and be the greatest cricket player in the world. All those memories which are so precious to me and now I see my kids growing and and wonder what kind of memories will they have. I pray and hope that they remember that their parents were Godly parents who loved Christ and wanted to His will. As other parents read this blog entry, let us not forget that we teach our kids why we do certain things and not for tradition purposes. For example I hope my kids remember that our family went to church because we loved Christ and we remembered His death on the cross...

I know that the title is boring for a blog entry but it is hard to come up with the title for a day which is summed with numerous activities. The activities are: Went to Church and heard a sermon on Obedience Bought a Fantasy Baseball Magazine Drafted my Fantasy Baseball team while I was on the phone with my league members who are in Kansas City, Missouri. (It took 3.5 hours for the 25 rounds) Put my kids to sleep which included: brushing their teeth Giving them a bath Dressing them up for bed Reading the Bible and praying with them Putting them to sleep Burping my 6 week old baby Downloading Ruby on Rails and...now currently blogging. Good For Him...He finished his race...

On February 24th, 2007, a dear old man from our church passed away. Usually when you tell someone that you are going to a funeral or when someone passed away, the answer mostly is ,"I am sorry" or "Sorry to hear that". Anyway I told about the old man to a Christian brother I know and he said "Good for Him" and then he said "I am happy for him." I was taken back by his comment since you hardly hear replies like that. After couple of seconds, it hit me why he said that. The Christian brother said those comments because he is was expressing his joy that the old man is going to be with Our Precious Jesus Christ. As the Christian brother put, the old man has finished his race. It is also a good reminder that our race is still not done and we need to stay on the right course. Once we die then other people can say we, as Paul, ran the good race. In closing, please look at Hebrews 12: 1 - 3 (KJV) , "Wherefore seeing we also are compassed ab...

In God We Trust

(Please install Google Earth before you click on couple of the links - Thanks) Today I updated my Google Earth desktop client and then I decided to surf the world. I first went to view the Pyramids in Egypt and then surfed other places in northeastern Africa and Sudan. I then went to Libya and clicked on a National Geographic Flash movie on Libya . After watching the video, I was reminded of my days when I grew up in Libya. I was in Libya from 1978 to 1981 and afterwhich I use to visit my parents every summer and winter till 1984. We use to live in a town called Al Bayda . Anyway here are somethings I remember: Seeing my first snow fall there The days when we didn't could find anything grocery stores and waited in lines to buy rationed foods. Getting stopped at every 15 km by young Libyan soldiers with machine guns pointing my dad and asking for our "papers. Listening to Ghaddafi speaks for hours in Arabic to the youth (mind you I didn't understand a word) Asked to...
