As we in America cheer our alma mater's men's college basketball to victory for the next two weeks, there are people in the Carribean who are celebrating every out or every run for their beloved West Indies cricket team. Cricket?! Yes cricket indeed-- a game played on a "pitch" (a prepared patch of ground which is in the middle of a circular field). The West Indian team is hosting the International Cricket Council's (ICC) Cricket World Cup . This year's world cup is composed of the following teams: Australia * Bangladesh * Bermuda Canada England * India * Ireland - includes Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland Kenya Netherlands New Zealand * Pakistan * Scotland South Africa * Sri Lanka * West Indies * (a collection of former English colonial islands in the Carribean) Zimbabwe * = Heavy Favorites to win the cup! As an avid sports fan, I am happy for Major League Soccer and their signing of David Beckham . I enjoy watching and playing soccer. I have been following soccer from early 1980s where my dad and I followed Seria A in Libya . When my parents and I lived in Libya , there wasn't much entertainment on TV and therefore we use to watch Italian and Greek soccer. I remember watching Paolo Rossi. However I still say that I Diego Maradona was "out of this world" in the 1986 World Cup. I haven't seen many players like him. I equate Diego Maradona to Barry Sanders of the Detroit Lions.
