My perfect lineup

Image
Yesterday I was watching Sunday Night Baseball game on ESPN with my high school buddy Eric . an avid Red Sox fan, The game was between Boston Red Sox and Texas Rangers at Arlington, Texas . To make the game more interesting, I was just routing against Red Sox. Anyway during the game, we talked about picking our all star team. To make it a little interesting, we decided to pick players in a batting lineup. Eric said he could just name his all star team but he couldn't come up with a lineup. I started to think about it and I realized that it is not an easy job. You cannot pick the best players since most of them are sluggers and RBI guys. I believe the perfect lineup should have speed, power, good hitting, and aggressive. Well after thinking about it for a day, here is my perfect lineup for this season: Jose Reyes (SS -NYM) - Fast, Exciting, good glove and he steals alot of bases Joe Mauer (C - Min) - Batting Champ and hardly strikes out and knows the Starting Pitche...

A True Role Model

Johannes Peter Wagner is considered to be one of the best to ever to play Major League Baseball. He was a short stop who: won eight batting titles in the National League lead the National League in RBI and stolen bases five times A career .329 hitter with 722 stolen bases. He was also known for his defensive skills. Now that's pretty good. Don't you agree? The reason why I am writing about "The Flying Dutchman" aka Honus Wagner is that his baseball card got sold couple of days ago for $2.35 million . Wow!!! That's alot money. Why is it so expensive? In the early 20th century, tobacco companies had baseball cards in their tobacco products. After a few months in the store, Honus Wagner asked the tobacco company to ban his baseball cards since he felt that baseball cards in tobacco products encouraged kids to buy tobacco and smoke. That is truly remarkable since he did the "moral" thing. Unlike today where star baseball players shoot themselves with stero...

Baseball is America

It's couple days before the Super Bowl XLI . It's time. All the Super Bowl hype and predicating on who is going to win the big game. My friend Eric posted an entry on what to get for his Super Bowl party. Boy I am excited. Unfortunately I am not writing about football but rather I am writing about America's favorite sport (atleast in the dog days of summer) . I am writing about baseball. As an immigrant, I never full understood the game of baseball. I thought it was sport of grown men trying to hit a ball with a "fat" stick and they got paid "beaucoup" bucks. I thought it was probably the most boring sport in the whole wide world. Believe it or not, I became an avid baseball fan after the Strike of 1994 . During this time, people talked about how they missed the tradition of taking their kids to the ballgame, or what it means to be a baseball fan. It made me realize that to understand America you have to understand baseball. Baseball like America can be...
